I like this skimmer, it does well on my 90. But it is quite loud. I have it in my bedroom and you can here the spray injector going all the time. It's more like white noise, so I can sleep ok, but if you need total silence..you won't get it with this thing hanging on the back of your tank. Besides the Rio1400 that I have to power it is HUGE! And it is a big gray eyesore in my tank.
Those are the only two negatives I have seen.

Have you tried the silencer mod? It's been awhile since I've done this but you can do a silencer mod with the Remora by using a wet papertowel over the injector. You can do a search for it to find out more details but that should take care of the noise.
Regarding the Rio1400, I hope it's UL-listed! ;)

Jessy I have the regular Remora and that thing is Loud.
Not as loud as a CPR though.
It was to replace my CSS (Corallife Super Skimmer) which
I miss dearly (donated to bro), extremely quiet; however
had it's quirks.
I like Minh don't even use my skimmer anymore.
Hope this helps, I haven't tried it myself

THANK YOU!!!! I'm scared to not use my skimmer anymore. I'm still a little too new and unexperienced in feeding portions and upkeep to just toss it away. I like to feel like I've got something mechanical helping me keep my tank alive in case I do something really stupid one day.

lol :p
your not the only one.
My Remora is still there... just a holding tank to make my 12g a 13g.
Kinda like a emergency crutch if something dies in the tank...
I'm too lazy to take it out anyways.
Hope the mod works and dosn't reduce skimming...
If you have gutz... try running your skimmer for
24 hours, then 20 hours, then 16 hours, then 12 hours,
etc until you don't skim anymore... I would start one week for
each interval until your bacteria can catch up.
I was only running it at night for a long time then
stopped Cold Turkey after talking to Minh.
I do overfeed sometimes, but the DSB reduces waste so efficently now.
cheers

cheers WOOO HOO Skimmerless... I feel all nekkid ;). We'll see how it goes. Keep you updated if the tank likes it or not. I know I like the quiet in my room.

Believe it or not Jess... with your heavy stock of photosynthetics that should be pleanty of oxygen in the daytime... I would run the skimmer more at night to start with. It's tempting to turn off at night... unless you have a fuge then you should be safe. According to Borneman's work on Oxygen in the reef it's most depleted at night and corals go without oxygen up to 12 hours fine that's why I say reduce skimming during the day first. :D
It will take time though.
