Has anyone here heard about the efforts to move the seals at the Cove in La Jolla to make room for a kid's cove/beach? I can't believe someone would think that having a kid's play beach is more important than those beautiful animals. They are a good tourist attraction too.

The reason for that is because that beach was paid for by a benefactor who wanted it to always be available for the children of San Diego. The City is required by law to keep it suitable for children to swim there and they have chosen to ignore that. The seals are also now attracting larger predators such as Great Whites. At least two documented attacks/sightings so far. It would not take too much effort to get them to move but people are too afraid to interfere with the seals rights.

there is also a concern with their poop - the bacteria counts are way out of wack there, and the sand and children's cove is a cultured petri dish. The fight is also because they are a health hazard.

"those beautiful animals" are gonna be just fine without that beach. there are other places to have their pups, they're not endangered/threatened, and it's probably best for them to be further away from people.

wow no love for the seals I see. I understand all your points, but I guess I'm still new to SD and find those guys fun to watch.

Have you ever been to pier 39 in San Francisco? The seals there are protected and make for quite a tourist attracyion. But let me tell you the stench is overwhelming.
