I've noticed lately that some foods I feed my fish they go crazy for...literally filling their bellies til they look like they swallowed a marble. Other foods, eh, they can give or take. So what have you guys noticed?
Mine LOVE PE mysis, and minced shrimp from the grocery store.
Mine like mini mysis, plankton, minced scallop from the grocery store.
Mine are ok with frozen formula, and any dry food flake (soaked in slecon)
Mine don't really care for hikari mysis, dry pellets

Good thread, I wanna hear more feedback.
I'm trying to use a good variety.
Frozen Spirulina mysis brine mix for everyone
Prime reef flakes for balanced nutrition, omnivores meat eaters.
Formula Two flakes for herbivores
H20 frozen Coral Mix everyone seems to like this stuff
Got some garlic stuff to add too.
sounds like some home made concoctions are good.

Using the mix I got from the one club meeting caused my acros to send out mesenterial filaments. I have heard conflicting opinions as to whether they are a feeding response or a defensive mechanism, so I haven't been using it :(

Very old article that was re-quoted.
"Another type of competitive mechanism employed by corals including A. pulchra is a direct mechanism called extracoelenteric digestion. This is where mesenterial filaments originating from the gut are used to damage the soft tissue of a neighboring coral. While it has not been shown that corals are able to digest other corals as food, they are predators and eat a variety of reef organisms (Goreau et al. 1971)."

No one really knows, but
Could be to chemically let other corals know to stay away for growth or stunt growth of other corals. (Chemical Warfare) Prob more offensive than defensive in response to some sort of shock.
I like to feed anything with garlic extract...
my fish go nuts over it. I use Formula Two Flakes, don't find that they pollute the water as one thinks. It has 2% garlic added and spirulina for some corals too.
Would like to try the Forumula Two Pellets someday.
Lately, live brine shrimp drive the feeding frenzy up 10 notches.

rehash of an old thread, but a note on the formula 2 pellets, if you wanna try them you can have mine. they sink straight to the bottom, and nothing touches them.
i feed all kinds of things, never the same meal in a day. mysis, squid, prawn eggs, formula 1 frozen, some other frozen i can't think of at the moment, and garlic soaked flakes once a week.

I like feeding the hikari mysis cubes cuz it's convenient for me, and ALL the fish and ALL the LPS eat it no problem.
PE mysis is a great food, but I try to feed it sparingly - seems to mess with water quality a little quicker than most foods.
A pump or two of cyclopeeze every now and then makes everything go nuts.
I started to feel guilty about keeping the fish on a single-item diet, and picked up a tray of "emerald entree" to give it a shot. I was impressed with - the fish like it a lot, most will even eat the green bits. So I've been feeding emerald entree every day, hikari mysis once or twice a week, and a little cyclopeeze when I remember.

Have you ever used New Life Spectrum Pellets? Do they sink faster or slower than the F2 pellets?

never used any other pellets, but these things sink like rocks straight to the bottom.
