View Full Version : Fish Mugshots
I just received a Rebel XTi and started to snap a fish family foto album. I discovered that the firefish seems to pose for photos while the coral beauty is camera shy. Either that, or it's always having to keep out of the flame angels way!

very nice display! You've got a lot of the fish I like. I have a juvi atlantic blue. do you know how old yours is to be that perfect color?
I have no idea how old my fish are. I inherited the Purple Tang, Flame Angel and Chromis with my upgrade. I had to trade out a pair of Maroon clowns, blond naso tang (didn't survive the move) and an extra Royal Gramma. I combined the new tank with my old Scooter Blenny, Coral Beauty, Royal Gramma (the smaller of the two, and now it's grown to the size of the original!) and Firefish. Then, I purchased the Midas Blenny (previous Midas from RAP did well in quarantine, but didn't last 1 day in the main display--efficient clean up crew!), Timor Wrasse and Ocellaris Clowns (the Petco one killed its partner, then lost the partner I replaced it with, then, finally accepted another). The orange spotted Goby/pistol shrimp pair were from a SDR member. The pistol shrimp's claw sounds like popcorn popping under water. I wonder what it's doing, snapping in the tunnels it's built under the rock and sand?
So, it looks like I've finally settled on these 13. I plan on only purchasing new fish if I lose any. For a 110 gallon tank, I'm happy with all the activity these fish provide in the display. The angels aren't fighting to the death, but the Flame chases the Coral Beauty occasionally. The Purple Tang seems to insert itself in between these disputes, I swear! The Orange spotted Goby is getting territorial with the Scooter Blenny. It's funny watching the Scooter swim away with his mast fully erect; it's kinda awkward. The clowns have adopted a Frog Spawn coral where they occasionally court each other. I don't think they're old enough for spawning because the current "female" was so tiny when I got it. The smaller clown is actually the older one in this pair. It was traded out because it was the aggressor in the previous tank. Now, it's not aggressive at all in my tank. I think they're starting to defend their territory (from the likes of a large Coral Banded Shrimp---the leader of the "clean up crew").
Thanks for your interest!

here are a couple of mine....
izzz nice!
I'd really like to add a Copper Banded Butterfly someday to my tank. I'm slowly getting into the SPS phase, so I'm not too sure at this point. My angels will probably cause me the most headache as far as adding corals is concerned.
How is your CBB doing in your tank?

yeah, the majority of angels and corals don't mix but there are some that would be fine. I really love my CBB. I've only had for about a month and had a scare last weekend as I was watching him, he looked like he got stung by a coral and went to the back bottom corner of my tank and was breathing hard. He didn't really move for about an hour and then slowly started swimming again. He seems back to normal ....swimming and eating fine. I soaked mysis in garlic to get him to start eating and he picks at the rocks all days long. Seems like he has put on a few lbs since I got him. :)

A couple updates. Brutus isn't a fish but too cool to leave out. :D
Picked this pair at Pet Kingdom with a nice SDMAS discount using my membership card!:D
One of them, I'm guessing it's the male, makes noise using his jaw. At first, I thought he might be crashing into the tank to make noise:eek:. But, after a little wetwebmedia research, I found that they're known to make noise.
