Hey Everyone:
I am wondering if anyone has experience with preskimmers. I will be running a CPR BakPak 2 w/o biobale (live sand/rock instead) along with a CPR Aquafuge Small on a 46 gallon tank, and I have been reading forums about preskimmers. I will not have an overflow. It seems like a good idea in that it will remove water that has a larger concentration of organic waste into my protein skimmer, but I have read about some problems with them (sinking into the tank, the foam insert getting congested with matter, the screws getting loose, fish getting into them).
I am thinking about purchasing one if it seems that it will be a big help. Also, I have an MJ 1200. Does anyone know if that fits okay into the various brands of preskimmers.
Thanks, Cullen

Hi Cullen, your MJ1200 should fit just fine into the CPR/AquaC brand pre-skimmers. Aside from the positives you've mentioned, it's also a great way to get that nasty protein build-up on the water surface to allow for better oxygen exchange and light penetration. One little nice thing is that it hides your skimmer pump so your tank will look a bit cleaner. I've used both the CPR/AquaC pre-skimmers without any of the pitfalls you mentioned, it should be a worthwhile investment. I think the AquaC brand is better of the two. Hope that helps, feel free to ask more specific questions. Cheers!
