So my buddy Scott called me a few weekends ago saying that his tank had crashed and if I could try and rescue a few of his fish. He had a slightly smaller tank than me but housed 2 very big tangs, a sohal (about 12") and a dussumieri (about 16") in addition to about a 6" blue hippo, sailfin blenny and some blue-green chromis. I unfortunately didn't havve much time to think about what was at stake so I decided to put them immediately in my main display. My main fear is that the sohal would be aggressive towards my already established tangs which all were much smaller (orangeshoulder, mustard, and sailfin). The end result was that one of the chromis died within a few hours, my mustard tang I found belly up the next morning....no bite marks but I guess the stress added by the new huge tangs was too much. The sohal started showing bad signs of fin and tail rot and it ended up passing about 4 days later. It looked like I was done with the battle but I'm pretty sure my sunburst anthias ended up taking a hit as well. He was showing some signs of disease and stopped eating and went MIA.

All the fish at this point appear to be healthy and the dussumieri tang has fully recovered. He is a beast of a fish....just way too big for my tank. Luckily, Birch Aquarium is going to take him for their new 1200g hawaiian fish tank display. I snapped a few pics with my iphone tonight...he has been having a field day digging holes in the sandbed and moving things around. It's going to be a great joy trying to get him out of the tank.

So lesson learned....while trying to save fish is a good thing...use a QT tank vs putting in your main display.

Marlin, your tank looks great! Glad to hear you found a 1200 gallon home for your friend's giant tang. That should be the perfect size for the big guy.

How long have you had your CBB ?

Does he cause you issues with Zoas or LPS ?

the CBB made it about 6-7 months and then bit the dust. I think he was being overpowered for mysis shrimp which was about the only thing he ate. He didn't mess with my zoas or lps.
