View Full Version : Fun with Aiptasia-X
I was impressed with the video found on Red Sea's website, so I purchased some Aiptasia-X.
Contrary to what the Red Sea rep said at the SDMAS meeting, you do have to give the bottle a little shake before using it. It was easy to get back into solution, though.
After I took the pics I could see the iddy biddy ones. I'll zap them later.
I accidentally got some on the sea cucumber hiding under the rock:hissyfit:. I used the empty syringe to flush off the product. He hasn't decided to eviscerate himself.......yet.;)

What is Aptasia X? I've been reading about how to rid them and several people mention peppermint shrimp or using kalk. How is this product applied and is it expensive?
Aiptasia-X is a new Red Sea product. I got it at MarineDepot for $11.
There's a cool video showing its use on their homepage at http://www.redseafish.com
You apply it similar to Kalk or Joe's Juice. Apparently, the Aiptasia like to eat this stuff.
The bottle that I bought is probably more than enough for the few Aiptasia that I've got. I do have some majano anemones that I'll probably zap, too.

UPDATE: The sea cucumber moved this rock a bit in my refugium, but you can see that this large Aiptasia did not get killed off with the treatment. It just managed to melt off the tentacles for a few days. I've noticed re-growth of treated samples in my main tank as well.
On a side note, I've got small arrows pointing to newly laid Nerite snail egg sacks.
Here are pics of before/after/days later of a larger Aiptasia that I treated.

i used it with more success. after i dosed the mouth of the aptasia, he stayed extended, so i took the needle and shoved it down its mouth and squirted a bit more in. that seemed to do the trick, it exploded, been a couple days no sign of return of any of them, i did about 15.
I guess I need more practice shoving cake down its gullet!
I like this guy's write up on Aiptasia-X. The cake is a lie: http://reef.eldersign.org/?p=296
