Anyone out there have a good place in SD to go ocean curing Aragocrete? we will be arriving soon, building new 100G show and I think live rock sold in dry boxes is a rip. Help needed and a good start on friend to share the life with.

..... Live Rock sold in dry boxes is far less hassle, and far more alive than aragocrete. If you get LR boxes fresh off the plane, plenty of stuff survives.

boxed LR should still be cured. And the ocean is the best way to cure rock imo. I have done it for the last three tanks. Still wondering it La Jolla pier would be a good place...as I have read that a lot of aquaist get their water from the pier

i wouldn't go throwing stuff in the water in la jolla you likely end up with a hefty fine.. i think a bucket and salt water is what you need. your not going to get any life that will live in a reef tank if you cure your rock in the ocean here you'll just end up killing it all off again when you drop a heater in the tank.

curing Argocrete in the ocean will kill everything around it.
The high pH in the Porter Cement is toxic and and leach everywhere.

During the curing process it needs to sit in full vinegar for minimum of 12 hours to 24 hours then cured (however, long that takes)
If you mess up... then your livestock dies with fustration and more money lost, as well as time
then to Plan B (start over or go buy liverock)

happened to this guy :( I really feel bad for him.

agree with above, just get real liverock and be done with it.
There are no cheap shortcuts unless you want to experiment.

There are pleanty of reefers who move, upgrade, leave the hobby that
you can get liverock that isn't impacting the reef.

This is an expensive hobby to start with.
Is it a risk worth taking?

Wow very interesting. I got about 6 slabs of this in a flat plate formation from him so I could grow out my acans and such on it. I've had it curing in a QT tank for months, just too lazy to do anything with it. Maybe I won't now. Do you all know if the GARF rock has the same issues? It is my intention to use at least a few of their shapes when I do another tank.
