1 tang, but which kind, hmm...
1 cherub angel Centropyge argi
5 barnacle blennies
1 yasha haze goby Stonogobiops yasha
1 Stonogobiops nematodes
2 firefish (forgetting the scientific name)
1 yellow clown goby Gobiodon okinawe
2 clowns Amphiprion ocellaris or percula?
eventually a mandarin Synchiropus splendidus

i love sixlines, but not as much as mandarins. does anybody think i could do it with over 130 # of LR.

i figured out the tang i want. Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis the Chevron tang. beautiful juvenile, the adult looks awesome too, interesting color changes, and not very aggressive.

Barnacle blennies don't like each other. Probably just 1-2 per tank.

If you're going to get shrimp gobies, it's more fun to get them in pairs, and get some pistol shrimps for them. Pistol shrimps are AWESOME to watch.

Firefish will also kill each other unless they're a pair - make sure they get along before bringing em home.

Also ... you sure about that angel? Can't trust em with corals really....

thanks. about the angel, i really thought about it, and i realized i just love that fish so much its worth a gamble. also, there wll be so much sps and quite a few clams, so i doubt it will be able to do major damage to any of them, especially since it is the smallest of the genus and have the least number of reports of them nipping.

i was planning on getting pistol shrimp partners for them, but i didnt know they did better in pairs, ill have to think about that.

the firefish will definitely be a pair. do the barnacle blennies really not like eachother? because most of the pictures ive seen of them they are in small groups and at the stores ive seen them at there were a few to a cubicle and they seemed happy. if they really dont get along, though, i wont test the theory.

The gobies don't _have_ to be in pairs, I just think they look cooler in pairs. ;)

The banracle blennies will get along with each other when totally crowded (just like when you see 50 cichlids in a 20gal holding tank at the fish stores) but IME, they pick each other off if you sprinkle a couple of em in a normal tank. Could just be my TANK-OF-DOOM though, so might want to ask around.

Good luck with the angel. Can't say I blame you, and if it really comes down to it, fish traps are easy enough to use.

haha. ill ask around about the blennies. i just really like the way a bunch of them live together in barnacles all popping out like jawfish. again, ill ask around and see if that will work out.

I think that the cherub is worth a try ...... use to keep them years ago but that was in LPS and soft coral tanks only, didn't have any SPS ........

Peter have you thought about the gobies in the family of Trimma ??? Small , colorful and they do get along .....

The mandarin should also be no problem after you build up your microfauna population. Very well thought out list Peter !!!!!!! :)

thanks. i did think about trimma gobies, but i decided to get them for a pico or a nano to put them in the spotlight. i am thinking, however, about changing the fish list drastically.

keep all of the gobies and blennies and the dragonet, but instead of the angel, tang, and clowns, add a pair of kuda seahorses, a pair of pipefish, and keep 4 or 5 of the seahorses' fry. sell the rest of the brood and rear other broods to sell. just an idea.

Been there, done that - skip seahorses/pipefish in a reef tank. Seriously.

and raising seahorse fry isn't easy stuff.

Same here species only tanks for the best results with seahorse's and pipefishes, on the gobies don't forget the Evotia species also .... Peter what type of inverts do plan on keeping ????? SPS, LPS, Soft corals ....... that will help with the decision .

yeah, ive been getting not so great reports on the SH idea. ill just save them for the 29 softie im setting up next ;). thanks for the help and ides\as, though. as for the trimma and eviota and trimmadon gobies, im going to save those for a 5 gallon ive been planning. dont worry, im not setting up the other tanks until the 90 is settled in.

What's funny - everybody wants to put mini-gobies in a mini-tank... "oh, I'll never see them in a big tank!" they say.

Soooo not true. They'll do real well in a large tank so long as there's nothing in there that finds them tasty. And they hang out in sight most of the time. And they're cute. :)

okay, maybe ill put them in there. it would add to the mini goby theme. two shrimp gobies, 3 neon gobies, a yellow clown goby, two firefish, an eviota, a trimma, and a trimmadon goby, and the dragonet and blenny sort of fit in there.

I've got a bunch of Gobies in my 240 and i see them all the time ..... they just hide when they are first put in and when they find a home and no one harass them, you'll see them all the time ( especially at feeding time ) :)

whats the smallest group of anthias i could keep? i would have 6 (5 females, 1 male) but that would be like 20 fish  if i could keep 3, though... (lyretail, btw.)

Clown gobies can work sometimes... but just as often as they live happily ever after, they either starve to death, or munch down on your acros. Bleh.

peterluber

well, ill have lots and lots of acros, i hope it wont be able to eat all of them. i had a citron goby that ate fine, though.

got my two baby clowns last night. i think they are a hybrid ocellaris and percula. they are just barely an inch long.

Sounds like a good fish list, hope the angel works out. It would be nice to have a showcase fish like that. I have one yellow watchman goby which I almost never see. Even during feedings, it just waits in its little corner. I am guessing my royal gramma has it scared to come out in the open.
