Hi all. I am preparing to move out to San Diego From North Carolina. I am in the Marine Corps, and got orders to Coronado Island. I was wondering if anybody had any advice for me about the cross country move. Things I need to know about the area, anything like that. My wife and I are jumping in feet first with less than 4 weeks notice. We will be driving cross country with 2 dogs and four birds as it is, and most of my rock and sand will be in tubs with us as well. Still working the livestock issue. Any help or advice would be treated as gold. Thanks. Bobby

Wow, quite a trip! There's a spigot at the Scripps Pier that spits out (relatively) clean natural sea water, so you can use that for getting your tank back up+running right away. Whether or not you want to use that stuff long term is a local topic of debate. :)
This place is nice. No snow, no hurricanes. Good scuba, good golf, good anything outdoors.

Hey Bobby ; Welcome !!!!!! The long distance thing is really hard on Livestock ..... if you can get someone to hold it for you till you get here it would be better, then ship it once your set up, the sand if it's used your going to need to risen it really good, once you get here ( would be better to start out with new sand depending on how old it is ..... may cause an algae bloom once it's put back in the tank ) if you decide to ship the fish and the tanks not quite cycled (be sure to contact us for some live sand to help speed up cycling) you could talk to one of the LFS (Octopuss's Garden) and see if they could hold them ( for a fee ) for you for a couple of weeks .......
Hope this helps,

Yea, its gonna be quite the trip. I have a 75 gallon tank, so the rock and sand will go damp with me, but I will be mailing most of the livestock to someone in San Diego. As much as he can hold anyways. I don't wanna get rid of anything, but I know I can't carry any of it with me. The water from the Spigot sounds like a great idea that will save me some time and money.

Well. change number one. I am not gonna be able to bring my rock. I have a good amount of unused sand that im bringing, that im gonna start with, and im bringing my sand to finish off my DSB. BUT, I cannot bring my rock, so Im gonna have to order new rock as soon as I arrive. But, we have found a place to live, so at least we can drive straight to our new place in Chula Vista. I have one offer so far from somebody to hold some of my livestock. Do any of you have room to spare in your tanks. I would pay and be very appreciative. Thanks. Bobby

Staghorn. So far, one person has given me use of his 50 gallon QT. I will be shipping most of my stuff to him. I have (I think) 13 corals, 8 fish, 2 stars, 4 shrimp that I will be shipping. i am not sure yet how much he will be able to hold, So if anyone can hold some of it, that would help.

My livestock list that I want to keep is:
1 yellow tang
1 coral beauty
1 lawnmower blenny
1 percula clown
3 green chromis
1 royal gramma
1 sebae anemone
1 mushroom rock (fist sized 7 polyps)
1 smaller mushroom rock
1 fist sized yellow polyp rock
I fist sized alveopora sp?
I 4 inch wide leather
1 torch coral
I small clump of orange zoos
1 large baseball sized group of green zoos
1 large mat of green star polyps
1 ricordia polyp on a plug
3 small xenias
1 coral banded shrimp
3 pep shrimp
2 brittle stars.
I think that is it. I know a lot of you will say "most of that is cheap, jsut sell it and replace it when you get here".
I really don't wanna do that. it has taken me a while to get all of these, and many I have had for a while, and would really like to transfer "my tank" rather than start over. Thanks for any help. Bobby
