A few weeks ago, I was perfectly happy with my 120g display and 55g refugium setup. (My tanks live in the garage so I can close the door and hide from them now and then.)

Yet, a few weeks ago I saw an ad for someone selling their 220g tank. The tank sounded perfect - 5'x3'x2', starphire front, 3" eurobracing all the way around. My trusty station wagon and I hauled ourselves up to Glendale to pick it up.

The tank arrived back in San Diego without incident, and my garage was uncomfortably stuffed with aquariums before I knew it. Had to get the old tanks torn down and the new one up before the significant other got too freaked out.

So off to home depot to get materials for a stand!

A pile of 2x6's later, we realized - we've got an excuse to get a new power tool! w00t!

I searched and searched for a sump that would fit in the stand I planned to build, and large enough to handle extra water from the tank when the power goes out. Didn't have any luck, but eventually inspiration came from SDMAS' own David M - build a box out of wood, and use a pond liner!

After applying a bunch of saw cuts, liquid nails, deck screws, and elbow grease from Charles, Dave, and I... our handiwork holds Dave up!

Finally, we were ready to tear down the old tanks and move in the new!

Got the stand+sump in, with 1" of styrofoam insulation on top to help level out the tank a bit:

It's ALIVE! .... sorta.

120g + 55g + 30lbs of rock = new tank

So where's the "dooom" part? No shattered glass? Wet floors? Sore backs?

Congrats ;)

There haven't been any catastrophes ... yet.

But I'm sure there will be... so I'm naming the tank in advance. :D

Hey-- that is a nice tank, but you really need a living room to stick it in.

You can use mine :)

Did you already sell the 120? If not, can you convince my wife to let me buy it? :)
